Helping children realize their lifetime potential
Gloucester Montessori School (GMS) has provided a unique educational experience to children of the Virginia Peninsulas for over twenty five years. Based on the teachings of 19th century educator Maria Montessori, more than 5,000 schools in the United States practice the Montessori Method, and according to recent reports by the Washington Post, more than 8,000 schools employ the method world wide.
Montessori's ground-breaking methodology views education emphasizes the development of each child as individual thinker and learner in an atmosphere of self discipline, respect and compassion. GMS allows students to progress at their own pace while developing social skills, academic excellence and a love of learning. All this is done in an environment that fosters independence, creativity and curiosity.
GMS is a full member school of the American Montessori Society. All of our teachers are certified by either the American Montessori Society (AMS) or the American Montessori Institute (AMI). AMS is the largest Montessori organization in the world, and provides excellent resources for parents to learn more about the history, philosophy and practice of the Montessori Method.
