1. Admissions
Dear Interested Parents,
Thank you for your interest in Gloucester and Lancaster Montessori School.
Our school is a nonprofit educational institution with locations in Gloucester County (Gloucester Montessori School) and on the Northern Neck (Lancaster Montessori School). Gloucester Montessori School began as a preschool program over twenty five years ago and now serves children from the age of two and a half to grade six. We are located on five wooded acres at 8381 George Washington Memorial Highway, just north of Walter Reed Hospital. The Lancaster Montessori School is a preschool and kindergarten program located at 83 Bluff Point Road in Kilmarnock. The school is housed in the first floor of the contemporary Eubank Building, which also houses the Academy of the Performing Arts. We are a full member of the American Montessori Society (AMS) and the Virginia Council for Private Education(VCPE).
Of all of our resources - the beautiful spacious classrooms, authentic Montessori materials, extensive curriculum - it is our people that are our greatest asset. Like the area we serve, our staff and parents are diverse and come from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. We cherish our differences as much as our similarities as we unite in our mission - to help our students realize their fullest lifetime potential.
Our admissions process begins with a visit to our school at which time you may tour our campus and schedule a time to observe in one of our classroom. During this observation you will see our staff and students working together in a carefully prepared Montessori environment that is designed to meet the intellectual, emotional and physical needs of the child. Each classroom is instructed by a certified Montessori directress who is trained to meet the developmental needs of the children participating in each three year program; preschool, (ages two and a half through six), lower elementary, (ages six through nine), and upper elementary, (ages nine through twelve). Afterwards, you will meet with a staff member who will answer any questions and guide you through the next step in the enrollment process.
Although each class is unique, there is one common thread that runs through both the student and parent populations - respect. We are a community of learners and it is the respect of self, others and our environment that guides us in the pursuit of excellence as educators, parents and students.
We are proud to be part of what is fast becoming a global Montessori community, while remaining true to our Virginia roots. We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you into our family.
Warm Regards,
Patricia Landau
Head of School
